Divisions
The administrative office at Public Works consists of the Director of Public Works, Assistant Director of Public Works, Maintenance Manager, Superintendents, and an Administrative Assistant. The administrative staff is dedicated to serving the customers and citizens of the city and getting work orders to each department within Public Works in a timely manner.

Our public services department consists of garbage pick up and trash/debris removal. Please see the information page regarding garbage and trash pickup and the rules that need to be followed in order to provide services for the residents and businesses of Northport.
Please also remember that the routes will begin at 6 am. Please plan accordingly during this time.

The Right-of-Way department is in charge of all mowing for the city. They are also in charge of collecting litter from public rights-of-way in the city limits. They work on a designated mowing and litter pickup schedule.
Mosquito spraying is also provided during late spring and the summer months on a weekly basis.

The maintenance department is responsible for repairs and upkeep for all City of Northport buildings and facilities. They are responsible for utility management for all city structures.

The City shop provides vehicle and equipment maintenance for the City of Northport fleet. It also coordinates repairs which may need to be performed by outside vendors. The city shop is located at the Public Works Compound.

The Construction department is responsible for installing storm sewers, repair of curbs and gutters, drainage ditch maintenance, repairing potholes, and assisting other City departments with various construction needs.
If you need to report a pothole or drainage problem please call Public Works at 205-333-3003. Please indicate the address (or nearest address) of the issue you are calling about so that the crews can quickly find and repair the issue.
Also please do not put grass clippings, leaves, etc., into the storm drains. This will help to keep the drains from getting stopped up. Property owners have responsibilities that, if neglected, can affect drainage systems on both private and public property.

The Recycling Department is responsible for the collection of residential recyclables within the city limits of Northport. If you would like to participate in the recycling program, please contact our office to request recycling bins. Recyclables are collected on the same day as your scheduled garbage and trash pickup. Please visit the recycling page for more information on the recycling program.
